n A film showing the 1958 Marietta High School-Newark football game will be shown to Marietta Shriners following their first meeting of the year at Masonic Temple next Tuesday evening. Coach Scotty Hamilton will be the narrator.
n Ohio Power Co. during 1959 plans to spend $52,859,000 in the construction of two new facilities and in the modernization of existing equipment to keep ahead of the ever-increasing demand for electric power. Included in the new budget are expenditures for enlarging and improving power plants, transmission and distribution substations and lines, office and service building and other facilities.
n The barking of their pet dog at 4:45 a.m. awakened the family of Carl Close, 126 Fredrick St., in time to stop a fire that could have resulted in considerable damage to the home and injury to members of the family. The dog was asleep on an enclosed rear porch when in some unknown manner it upset a clothes tree. Children's clothing fell across a burning gas stove.
n Final examination schedule for the first semester 1958-59 was announced by Marietta College officials. Tests will begin on Jan. 15, and will continue through the following Thursday. Classes will be suspended Wednesday, Jan 14, "Reading Day" when the students are given an opportunity to prepare for final examinations.
n Due to physical disability, Elmer C. Hess has submitted his resignation as bailiff of Marietta Municipal Court effective Jan. 31.
n Receipts from coffee sales on Saturday from opening time until 11 a.m. will be given to the March of Dimes campaign by the New Mecca, Pinkerton's, Broughton's, Wakefield Hotel, Hotel Lafayette, Crystal Dairy, Silver Moon Restaurant, Hill Top Confectionary and Riddles Confectionary.
